The 4 Biblical Patterns to the Double Portion of the Anointing – 4

Step 3: TO JERICHO

2 Kings 2:4 (NKJV)Then Elijah said to him, “Elisha, stay here, please, for the LORD has sent me on to Jericho.” But he said, “As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you!” So they came to Jericho.

Jericho is known as the place of fragrance, or the City of the Moon.

As you carefully follow these patterns, you’ll notice a progression: one sets off from (separation), then goes down to (brokenness), and now, at this step, one comes to (confrontation). This means that at this point, you are required to face what stands before you, for Jericho represents the place of battles and wars.

But how does a place of fragrance become a place of battle instead of joy and peace?
In the natural world, whenever a fruit ripens, it attracts attention—the scent of a ripe jackfruit draws many who want to take it, both the owner and the thieves.

In the same way, when your life begins to bear fruit—when your anointing, purpose, and destiny start to manifest—it attracts both divine attention and opposition.

From the Old Testament, we see that great battles took place in Jericho (see Joshua 6:1ff). Only the strong and courageous could enter the city. Like the example of the ripened fruit, the battle is between the owner and the thief. Likewise, when you reach this stage in your spiritual journey, battles will arise around you. You must choose either to overcome and be victorious or to quit and allow the enemy to overtake you.

This is not the time to quit.

Hebrews 10:39 (NKJV)But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for this new revelation concerning the trials that come my way. I now understand that they are a sign that I am close to achieving my goals. Strengthen me once again, Lord, to fight until the end—for the glory of Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
