THE 4 BIBLICAL PATTERNS TO THE DOUBLE PORTION OF THE ANOINTING

Acts 1:8 — “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” [KJV]

Anointing is an unguent, or a special endowment (Chrism) of the Holy Spirit.

In truth, there is nothing like a double anointing—no! What it really means is the portion of the double spirit that rests upon the man to whom you are submitted. However, in common language, we often refer to it as a double anointing.

Below are the patterns for receiving the double portion of the Spirit for the anointing.

Step 1: SETTING OFF FROM GILGAL

2 Kings 2:1 — “And it came to pass, when the LORD was about to take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.” [NKJV]

Gilgal is the place of circumcision and sacrifice.
It is impossible for God to place a double portion of His Spirit upon a man whose heart has not been circumcised and who has not sacrificed all for Him.

This is the painful stage in the journey, because it requires a man to let go of all the fantasies of this world and focus entirely on following Christ.

The Bible is very clear in earlier chapters (1 Kings 19:19–21): Elisha sacrificed all his oxen by giving them to others to eat, ensuring that nothing would hold him back from pursuing his calling.

In the journey toward the anointing, it is required of a man to be stiff-necked no longer, for he must become fully subject to God’s instructions.

The children of Israel who were born during the journey to the Promised Land had not yet been circumcised. But when they reached the place called Gilgal, God commanded Joshua that every male who had not been circumcised should be circumcised (Joshua 5:2–10).

Circumcision and sacrifice are part of the process. This may include losing certain types of business, friendships, and other attachments.

Deuteronomy 10:16 — “Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer.” [NKJV]

Prayer

Wonderful and Loving King; I thank You for granting me this wisdom. I present myself to You that I may be purged and circumcised, for it is for my benefit and for the profit of the Kingdom. I surrender and make myself ready to take this painful step for the glory of Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
